September 24. There has been an aiming revival recently of the agitation in Ireland on the part of the Land Leaguers, and numerous outrages are reported to have been perpetrated in various parts of the country during the pest few daye. Considerable anxiety prevails in consequence both in Ireland and in this country, and the strongest possible measures are being adopted by the Executive to put down the increasing disorder. There are no changes to report in the money or produce markets.
At the wool gales to day 8400 bales wera offered, and a firm and active demand was again experienced.
Calcutta, Sept. 24. Telegrams have been received to-day from Candahar reporting that a great battle was fought on Thursday last in the neighborhood of that, city between the armias of tho Ameer and Ayoub Kban, resultiug in heavy loss to bofh sides, but in the ultimate defeat of Ayoub's troops From tbe latt«r two regiments are said to have deserted, and Ayoub was compplled to abandon hia guns and baggsge He has since, it is stated, fled with the remnants of his army to Herat, and the citadel of Candahar is now undefended.
Caph Town, Sept. 23. Telegrams are to hand from Pretoria announcing that the newly elected Volksraad was opened to-day at that place. President Krueer, in his opening address, stated that the Boer Government, aftsr due considera tion, dissented from various portions of the Convection agreed to last month between the English Commiß»ioner» and Boer repreaentatires. He believed that the English Government would bo compelled to agree to k modification of the Convention iv favor of the people of Transvaal.
Paris, S«pt. 24. The negotiations which have bstn com menced between the representatives of the French and Eogiiih Gcvermuents on the subject of the Anglo French commercial relations are progressing satisfactorily, and there are hopeful signs that an amicable agreement will be com* to.
