The Murray is expected from ~Westport "to-morrow morninc. The Lady Barkly returned from Golden ' Bay this afternoon. The Lyttelton sailed for Collingwood last' evening. The Wallace arrived at Greymouth this morning, and leaves for Hokitika to-morrow. The Patea is announced to sail for Patea via Wellington on Wednesday. ■ The Taiaroa sailed for Taranaki and Manukau at 5 o'clock last,night,^and arrived at the former port at 1015 a.m. to-day. .. Tbe Hawea leaves Wellinpton at noon on Mondny, will arrive here on Tuesday morning, and sail for Picton, Wollingtou, and South by the same tide at 10 a.m. The Union Company, have reduced the fares between Wellinpton and Sydney. The Wakatipu takes a large number of pasergei a to the latter port to-day. The freight fares for Chinese from Syd ney to Melbourne, by steamer, are down to £50 per 100. . Tho trial at the Criminal Court, Melbourne, of Captain John Thomson, of the barque Brochrague, on a charge of having wilfully neglected lo render assistance to the crew of a catamaran which was run down by his vessel on April 18, in the Java seas, wpb commenced on the 19th ult. and conclude d on the 2lst, when he was found guilty, and sentenced to three mopths' imprisonment. Captain Thomson had previously appeared before the* Police Court, Melbourne, on the same charge, the Police Magistrate dismissing tbe case on the ground that there wbb not sufficient evidence to go before a jury.
