Everything was in readiness for a start ou the arrival of the train at Richmond, which prevented any delay in commencing the match. Messrs Topliss -and Fairey captained the respective teams, and the latter winning the toss decided to go in. The ground was very rough, which affected the scoring considerably. Beach and Fairey were the only batsmen that got into double figures. The innings closed for a total of 49. The Nelson payers did not make a long stand, boote played well for 13. Greenfield waa neatly stumped by Paaps. There waa considerable excitement when the score reached 40 with 2 wickets to fall, but the bowling was too good for the batting, and the Richmond team won a closely contested game by 9 runs.
