(Per Cuzco.) Mr Parnell, M.P., and other Home Rulers have been speechifying in Ireland, demanding a reduction of rents, the compulsory sale of the property of absentee proprietors, and the compulsory Bale of waste lands by the Government. Mr Parnell advised the farmers to pay no rents should the landlords refuse their reasonable demands. He was applauded everywhere. The churches at Memphis are closed on account of the yellow fever epidemic. The Spanish Government are sending 5000 men to Cuba. The Swedish Arctic Exploring Expedition has successfully made the north-east passage from Europe to Japan. The Austrian troops were well received atNovi Bazar by the inhabitants and the authorities. In lowering the anchor on H.M.S. Euryalus, the capstan bars suddenly swinging round killed two men and injured several others. The interview between the Emperors of Germany and Russia at Alesandrovna was extremely cordial. It is nevertheless reported that difficulties exist between Bismarck and Gortschakoff, and the Imperial interview is said to have been arranged contrary to the desire of Bismarck. Cape news aays that Cetewayo is confined to the castle. He declares that he waa always against fighting the English, being convinced that defeat was sure and would only be a matter of time, but his young men thought differently. He says that the Isandula disaster was purely accidental His army wss sent over to Natal but fell in with the camp unexpectedly. At one time they were actually retreating when the ammunition of our men gave out and they made a full rush. They speak in the highest terms of the bravery of our men who formed themselves into squares and iought with bayonets against odds of thirty to one. The army that went down to Rorke's unit was the reserve one. Cetewayo says it was on.y the gallant defence of that post that saved Natal. Cambella was to have been the decisive battle and the second at Isandula but from that defeat the army never rallied to its full strength and returned to the king s kraal.
