Ai deputation of the Board consisting r of Messrs White, Bell, and Tuuoicliff having visited the road round by the; Wakefield Church, complained of by! the Rev. C. Moon, consider that it; would be establishing a bad precedent! to clear the gorse from off the road as; it does not interfere with the traffic,; but recommend the forming of about; ten chains round tha hill towards which they would contribute one balf, treat-, ing it as other by-roads. They alsoinspected the old monkey, and advise! lbe acceptance of an offar they had of; £1 for it where it lies, as it cannot bej repaired. In RedwoodV Valley, Mr Ernst Sigglekow having; diverted the water from its natural course by (he cutting of a ditch along- ; sicie the road, it haß washed a portion ; of it away, leaving eome very dangerous | holes. Two of the members of the \ Board visited the spot in company with myself, and their opinion is to the effect that he at once have notice to turn the i same back to its original course, and to '. repair the damage done. The growth • of gorae by Mr Arnold's property does i not impede traffic, so I have done nothing, awaiting your further instrur- ; tions. A letter was recoiled from the Pro- ' viocial Secretary, in reply to the request that the amount intended to be contributed by the Government towards tbe protective works proposed by Messrs. Granger and. Co. should be at once placed in the bands of the Board, stating tbat the Government will band over to the B^ard an equivalent to any private subscription for protection of river banks in ihe Waimea district, which the Board shall certify that they have in hand, provided that such equivalent shall not exceed the unexpended balance of tbe vole for such work, Tbo assessment for the curreut year haviug been Approved of, was sighed by tbe Chairman, and ordered to be placed at the Store of Messrs Hodder and Co., for tbe inspection of ratepayers, witb copias of the portions relating to the various sub-districts at convenient places. Btating that as he now requires to ÜBO the land over which he had formerly allowed the Board to discharge the water flowing across the adjoining road, he wishes such discharge restored to tbe original course. The Overseer haviug reported that Mr Thomson had cut or cleared a ditch along a portion of tbe original course, and wished the Board to continue the same up to tho road, Resolved, Thai the Board will not object to Mr 'ihoinaon continuing the ditch so as to take the water,

r A proposition was made, That in consequence of the numerous attendances required during the year, and the calls to inspect roads, &c, in various parts of the district, each member should ibe allowed an honorarium bf £100 per annum, and free passage on the railways.
