CORRESPONDENCE.

*** We arc desirous of affording every reasonable facility for the discussion of public subjects; but it mist be understood that we are in no wayresponsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. To tub Editor op the 'Evening Mail. Sib — Your paper of Saturday last contains a paragraph in which you state that a correspondent complains of the narrow state of the road near Mr C. Kellfng's, Upper Moutere, where there is scarcely room for two vehicles to pass. I know of no such place near Mr C. Kelline's, hut I do know of many on the trunk line of road between Upper Moutere and Moiueka, where two vehicles cannot pass, and where the traffic is about twenty time* as great as on the road near Mr C. Kelling'e, yet no accident happens. It would require as many thousands as the Board have hundreds to make all the roids throughout the district sufficiently wide for two vehicle* to pass one another. If your correspondent is in the habit of travelling between Dovedale and Upper Moutere, I would recommend him to make use of the almost level road, which the Board have opened at considerable expense, in preference to the hilly country near Mr C. Selling's. I think your correspondent would be more likely to get any bad place on the road attended to by direct communication with the Road Board than by complaining to you. I am, &c, H. A. Takrant, Secretary Moutere Eoad Board, Lower Moutere, Jan. 1L
