A scratch match between an eleven born in Nelson province and eleven others took place at Victory Square on Saturday afternoon. The outsiders were sent to the wicket first, and were represented by Tomlinson and Tennent. The first wicket, however, fell for no runs, a dangerous shooter from H. Cross disposing of Tomlinson. Speed dow joined Tennent, and by some steady play, the score was run up to over twenty, when Speed was caught by Morso. The wickets now fell pretty fast, Cross' bowling being very destructive, though a lot of byes were scored, owing to the Nelsonians having no regular longstop. The first innings for the outsiders closed for 67 runs. The Nelsonians then went iD, and not having such dangerous bowling to play against, hit about pretty freely. H. Cross, C. Cross, and -Barnicoat all reaching double figures, H. Cross especially making some fine hits. The innings closed about 6 p.m. for 83 runs, and as there was not time for another innings, the Nelsonians claimed the victory. Below we give the score: — Outsiders. Tennent, c H.
