EIGHT HUNDRED A YEAR.
To the Editor of the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir — Hitherto I have been a supporter of Mr. Gibbs, but last night I attended Mr. Curtis' meeting and to my great astonishment he told us that both Gibbs an i Akersten, three sessions ago, voted that the Superintendent's salary be raised from £600 to £800 a year ; well, I went | home and totd my wife if such was the case I would not vote for either of them, as I think when Mr. Gibbs as member of the Council could have voted against the increase, he should have done so. It is all very well for him to say now he would fulfil the duties for a much smaller salary, but we must uot forget that it is election . ime, and I fur one am certainly not to be caught with a hook so badly baited. I thought possibly Mi% Curtis had made a mistake, sol looked in one of those Blue Books he carries about with him, aitff in
which he told us we should find all the information, and sure enough I did find that both Akersten and Gibbs did vote for the £800. I have therefore made up roy mind to vote for Curtis, and I think a great many of my friends will do so likewise. Yours, &c, Convert. f?toke, Oct. 26, 1869.
