Lecture. — Dr. Giles will deliver a lecture on " Woman's place iv Creation," at tbe Provincial Hall, this eveniug at half-past seven. Prospecting Parties.— Two men from the No. 1 party who bave been engaged in prospecting the Wakapuaka ranges returned to town yesterday for provisions, and reported themselves to tha Committee last night. Hitherto they have uot succeed in finding gold iv payable quantities although the color was to be had almost everywhere they tried in the creeks, but nothing could be found above water level, thus showing that what gold there was must have travelled from some distance, one piece, indeed, weighing about _Jdwt. showed every appearance of having been exposed to the action of water for a considerable time, being much worn at the edges. The party have now shifted their ground and report very favorably of the appearance of the country in which they are about to commence operations.
