ARRIVAL OF THE SUEZ MAIL.

The Kangitoto with the English mail arrived in the roadstead yesterday afternoon, but on account of the heavy sea the tender could not come in until this morning. London, July 16. Discount 3 per cent; consols 92& to 93. The third series of Liverpool wool sales of East Indian wool commenced 28th June. Arrivals for third series of London wool sales 135,923 bales. Market slightly animated. Prices firm. Australian copper quoted at 78. Australian June mails via Marseilles delivered 12th July. The Queen is at Windsor. The Court will shortly remove to Osborne House, and then to Balmoral. The Viceroy of Egypt arrived in London 22nd June, and proceeded at once to Buckingham Palace, which was prepared for his reception. His visit extended to Ist July. During his stay there were great festivals on an extensive scale. The Canadian Parliament was prorogued at Otawa on 22nd June. The House of Commons has nominated a Committee to inquire into the cause of the great and excessive expenditure on the Abyssinian war. The Volunteer Encampment was opened at "Wimbledon on sth July. Queen's prize won by Angus Cameron, of Ist Inverness Volunteers; score, 71. The same gentleman won the prize in 1866. England won the international prize aeainst Scotland and Ireland. Scotland won the Elcho challenge shield; Ireland came second; England last. Gra'id Review of Volunteers to be held at Wimbledon on the 18th. ! A meeting of the Bank of South Australia took place on 29th June; a dividend of 10 per cent was announced. Australian and New Zealand Banks agreed, with one exception, to adopt re-exchanges at 10 per cent on bills returned dishonored, instead of 20 per cent, as hitherto. It was resolved that recommendations should be forwarded by the present mail for all Colonial establishments to agree to similar charges on dishonored bills returned from England. Eton and Harrow cricket match was played on the 9th and 30th July. Eton won in one innings. French Atlantic Cable successfully laid between Breste and Pierre. Message sent through to the Emperor of the French, announcing completion of the enterprise thus far. A riot took place at Porta-lown, in County Armagh, on Ist July; the police fired on the mob with fatal effect. Estates of the Duke of Newcastle, including Clumber Park, and house in London, sold. Proceedings in Bankruptcy taken against him. Earl Kieler elected a Scotch Eepresentative Peer. The Canadian Government have agreed upon terms of cession of Hudson's Bay Company's territory to the Dominion of Canada. By last telegraphic intelligence from New York gold is at 13fif . A riot took place at New York on 12th July during a procession of Orangemen. They were attacked by a party of Catholics, and 30 persons injured. Obituary. — Dr. Todd; Eev. G. Gresswell; Sir W. A. Beckett; Sir W. M. Boules, E.C.8.; Sir Arthur Rumbold, Bart.; Dr. Yearsly; William Jordan ; Lord Taunton. The Duke of Edinburgh has been appointed K.G.C. of St. Michael and St. George. The Irish Church Bill was read a second time on the 18th June. The Lords had introduced many amendments. The date of disestablishment was altered to May 1871. The glebes in Ulster were granted to the clergy and all glebe-houses in Ireland given to the church free of charge. They also proposed to endow the Catholic priests and Presbyterian ministers. The Bill was returned to the House of Commons last night, when Mr Gladstone announced that he was resolved to reject nearly all the amendments made by the Lords. The Ufe Peerage Bill was rejected by the Lords on Bth July. The Marquis of Hartirgton brought in a Bill empowering , the Government to purchase the telegraph lities. Sir George Grey and several late members of the New Zealand Government strongly protested against the treatment that colony had received from the colonial office. Mr Bright and Mr W. S. Forster have resigned their membership of the Reform Club, in consequence of Mr Smalley, of the New York Tribune, whom they had proposed, being black-balled. The Lord Mayor gave his annual dinner to Ministers on July 9. The principal speeches were made by Mr Gladstone, Lorjd Heatherly, and Mr Bruce. Disturbances were expected in Ireland about the 13th July, but the Oranee celebrations on that day passed over quietly, excepting at Belfast, where there was some rioting. The annuil dinner of Cobden Clunes was held at Greenwich on July 10. The Duke of Argyle presided. The Emperor of the French sent a message to the Corps Legislatif, granting Reform, in consequence of which the Routier Ministry resigned. Serrano was sworn in as Regent of Spain on July 18.
