The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1569. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Before J. Sharp,, Esq , R.M. Saturday, Septbmber 4. George Harper for neglecting to keep his chimney clean was fined 10s. and co^ts, 6s. 6d. Catherine 2?armenter was charged with unlawfully assaulting, and beating, and threatening to stab W. B. Parmenter, her husband. Mr. H. Adams appeared for the complainant and Mr. Kingdon for the defendant. Defendant admitted slapping her husband's face but not threatening to stab him. His Worship said, that from what he had heard that day and on previous occasions, he was satisfied that the only course to be adopted whereby peace could be maintained between Parmenter and his wife was that some arrangement shoulJ be made for a separation. To give an opportunity for this he should adjourn the case until Tuesday. If the matter were not settled then he should be compelled to bind defendant over to keep the peace. It was evident that she was receiving bad advice from some one outside, and if no arrangement were come to by the day appointed he should give her friends an opportunity of becoming sureties for her. William Robert Parmenter was charged with unlawfully assaulting and beating Catherine Parmenter his-wife. Case dismissed
