The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 1869.

Prospecting neak Nelson. ■ — We would remind our readers of the meeting to be held to-night at the Bank Hotel, for the purpose of discussing the advisability of offering encouragement to parties willing to undertake the exploratiou of the ranges in the vicinity of Auiseed Valley. To Correspondents. — -Having lately received a great number of enquiries on different subjects, many of which are extremely difficult to answer, we propose, under the head of " Anybody's Column," to devote a small amount of our space weekly to the publication of questions and answers on. subjects of general interest, and thus to afford an opportunity to enquirers of obtaining replies from one or more quarters on such matters as they may desire to obtain information upon. Fatal Effects of Intemperance. — Mary Ann Brad cock, a woman who for some time has rendered herself notorious by her intemperate habits, met with her death last night by drowning. It appears that at about half-past nine a passenger on the Port road heard a woman's screams, but owing to the darkness of the night was unable to discover from whence they cwne. The circumstance was reported at tlie Police Station, and two constables were despatched to the place, and were engaged ail night in searching for the cause of the alarm, but without any results. This morning, however, as two seamen were crossing in a boat from the boulderbank to the shore, they discovered the dead body of a woman floating out to sea, face downwards, in the middle of the tideway; they immediately secured the body, and towed it to the wharf, when it was recognised as that of Mary Ann Bradcock. An inquest was held this afternoon, when a verdict was returned of " Accidentally drowned."
