In the Legislative Council the other day, counsel was heard at the bar, for the first time iv the colony. Messrs. Hart and Whitaker appeared for and against the Thames Proclamation Validation Bill on behalf of the Superintendent of Auckland aud Mr. Robert Graham respectively. Long Drive Specimens. —Again we are cahed upon to refer to the extraordinary richness of the stone t>»ken from this claim. Although it was only on Wednesday last the result of the last specimen crushing was deposited in the bank, already 4001 b. of equally rich stone have accumulated, the only difference evidently being that they are in larger blocks. Yesterday one block, weighing 251 b., was tested by Mr Smith, assayer, of the Bank of New Zealand, and found to contain 50£ozs, <Jf gold. This specimen was not tested on account of its superior richness to the others, for there are many appearing much richer,'but owing 10 its extraordinary size A quantity of very rich specimens were also taken out yesterday from the Lowlevel drive. — Weekly News.
