MrWigzell, seconded by,Dr Williams, proposed— • - /.'.•: y. : • . : "That this meeting being of opinion that thetovvn should be diyided into wards, each ward to elect its own representatives, would request that the Board at once communicate with the Superintendent, for the purpose of having 1 .a bill presented in the next session of the Provincial Council, in order to secure that object." Mr E. Burn suggested that to carry out this resolution if. would be necessary to have a new Act of the General Assembly. On tlie motion of Mr B. Jackson, the following amendment w«s agreed to— That this meetingstandarijoiirnert'until Tuesda}', 3rd August, to receive the report of the aiidi'ors, ani also to consider the propriety of obtaining a municipality .for the city, and that the consideration of the proposal to divide the town into wards be postponed until the same tiriie." A vote of thanks to the chairman termiuuted the proceedings. The Election. The polling took place this afternoon, with the following result: —
: The four first-named gentlemen -were then declared duly elected.
West Wanganui Goldfields. — The Heailicotp, which left West Wanganui ou Sunday last at 12 o'clock, arrived this morning at 10 o'clock. The captain reports the Sea Breeze and Supply hi West Wan^anui, and tlie Pearl in the Big River, lie also reports about 300 men ar, Anatore Creek, about 70 of whom are doing well, the remainder being engaged in prospecting the surrounding creeks. All appear to be satisfied. Football. — The return match between the College and Town Clubs was played "id Yiciory Square on Saturday last, when victory again declared itself in favour of 1 the youngsters. At three o'clock, the toss having been woo by the College, the first kick was made by F. Wither, the captain of the side; in this game there was a waat of spirit displayed on both sides, the players apparently not having, wanned to their work, and in fourteen minutes the first goal was kicked by A. Drew, on the College side. After a short interval the second game was commenced, aad for some time the Town appeared to be getting the best of it, but after a hard* fight, which lasted for thirty-five minutes, a loud cheer from the boys told that they had again beaten their opponents, the winning kick being made by C. Pratt. The best charge of* the day was made during this game by the Town, who, in one' irresistible sweep, carried the ball before them from their own to their opponents' goal, and it wai only just as they arrived at the latter point that the tide, of battle turned in favour of the College lads, who took the ball back wiih them, and, as we have said, won a severely contested game. after thirty-five minutes* hard fighting. Conspicuous among the Collegians was one diminutive specimen of the genus schoolboy, who answered to the name of "Dud." We have been unable to ascertain the. derivation of this singular name, but from the fearless manner in which the little fellow tackled the Goliaths who were opposed to him, we are ; inclined to think it- must be an abbreviation of" David." " Dud" appeared to be übiquitous ; no sooner did one of his big opponents attempt to make a huge kick at ! the ball thau he was there, and m the most ■ insinuating manner would creep in between the legs of his senior, the result of the manoeuvre being that both would come to the ground with a tremendous thud. Instantaneously ," Dud" would be on his feet once more, and after'shaking himself together, would be "all there again immediately. Not'so, however,- with Tivelvestoner, who "geßeralljr/found.
