From a General Government Gazette return, we extract the following : — ln Auckland there are niue licensed brewedes and twenty-four spirit merchants. Hawkes Bay, three breweries and twenty spirit. merchants. Nelson, eighteen breweries and thirty-nine spirit merchants. Marlborough, three breweries , and teu spirit merchants. Canterbury, fifteen breweries and fifty-one spirit merchants. County of West land, seven breweries: Hokitika, two breweries ; Gr< j ymou<h, three breweries. There are also fifty-five spirit merchant in Westland. Otago, twelve . breweries and oue hundred and thirty-two spirit merchants. Nelson beats all the other provinces in the number of breweries and Otago in wine merchants and spirit merchants. - : Mr. H.
