WAKEFIELD POLITICAL UNION.

A meeting in the Lower Wakefield Schoolroom was held on Monday evening, May 3, when the following resolutions were passed unanimously. Mr. R. Boddington occupied the chair. Proposed by Mr. Midgley, and seconded by Mr. J. Baigent: — " That in the opinion of this meeting it is only just that the Government officials should suffer their share of the present depressed state of the province, and that therefore it is expedient that all public salaries over £150 should be reduced 25 per cent." Proposed by Mr. Squires, and seconded by Mr. Tunnicliff: — "That it is the opinion of this meeting that the compensation to Mr. W. White set down in the unauthorised expenditure is a gross injustice, and a thoughtless paying away of public money when the Province is in so depressed a state, and that the members of Council should take especial care that the Superintendent be restricted for the future. Proposed by Mr. Holland, and seconded bv Mr. Squires:— -"That in the opinion of this meeting it is imperative that the much-needed cart-bridge across the Wai-iti at Fox-hiU be no longer neglected, and that it is advisable a committee be appointed to draw up a memorial to the Council and obtain signatures to the same, praying that such bridge be forthwith proceeded with." The Committee was appointed, the memorial was written out and about twenty signatures attached, when a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings about 10 o'clock.
