ARRIVAL OF PRINCE ALFRED IN CANTERBURY.
The Prince landed at half-past ten yesterday morning, and was received by the Superintendent and Executive of the Proviuce. The Superintendent presented an address. The Mayor of Lyttelton also presented an address. A special train conveyed H.R.H. and suite to Christchurch, where the Duke was received by the Mayor of the City, who presented an address. A procession was then formed, which extended to three-quarters of a mile in length. There were Beveral triumphal arches, and the streets were decorated along the line of route. Three thousaud children sang the National Anthem in Cathedral Square. The Prince then held a levee; after which H.R.H. and suite and a number of others lunched with the Mayor in the Town Hall. Immense euthusiasm. Eight or nine thousaud people in town. Illuminations. Prince attended Cavalry Concert at night.
