Importation of Birds — By the Fanny, from London, Mr. K. Burn has received, as a present to the province from Mr A. Satmdeis. a number of poultry of different breeds, for distribution through the country. Amongst them are Golden speck '3d Hamburghs, light and darkßiahmapootras, a pair of game Itamavns, Aylesbuiy Ducks, and TouloUoe Geese, all of which arrived in first rate condition There were also put on board White Dorkings, of which the hen only has survived and a pair of Eooks for the Secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, both of which unfortunately, died on the pas-age. The birds that have arrived are, we are informed, all of them prize birds, and must have cost Mr. Saunders a considerable sum of money. Accidest on the Course. — We regret to state that the sad accident which occurred on the course yestsrday during the race for the Handicap Steeplechase, has terminated fatally, the unfortunate lad having expired at a quarter before nine last ni«ht. We are informed that he never spoke or showed any signs of sensibility up to the time of his death. John Alahoney was the son of a settler in Auckland, and was brought down here by Mr G. Cutts, since wßich time he has been in the service of Mr 11. Redwood junior, where he was known as a quiet respectable youth, and *i dear-headed, trustworthy rider.
