VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FIJIS.

The following document has been handed to us (Daily Times) for publication: — L. S. Chief Secretary's Office, Ban, 30th January, 1869. Volunteers, as military settlers, are hereby invited to enrol themselves into a corps for the purpose of assisting Thackoinbau, King of Bau, &c, to subjugate the rebellious and cannibal tribes of the interior of Viti Levu. " Each man enrolling must sign a declaration that he will faithfully serve and defend King Thackotnbau, his heirs and successors, in person, crown, and dignity, against all native enemies, and will obey all orders of King Tharkambau, his heirs and successors, and of the European generals and officers set over him, until the subjugation of the rebellious and cannibal tribes release him from active service. In consideration of the effective rendering of such service, each volunteer will receive in fee simple agrant of land of an area proportionate to their rank, to be selected by themselves in the districts subjugated, provided such selection does not interfere with the Government towns, their occupation and tenure of said grant rendering them liable to the obligations and service of military settlers generally. Volunteers will provide their own arms, ammunition, &c , viz., rifle, revolver, bowie knife, 300 rounds ball cartridge. SCALE OF LAND AREAS. Field Officer 2,000 acres.
