Wellington, March 12, 1.50 p.m. A telegram from Napier says, that news was received from Auckland last night, that Te Kooti, reiuforced by theUriweras, had surrounded Opotiki on Wednesday last, aud murdered Mr Pitcairn, a surveyor, and, it is feared, several others. Rakarara aud a party of frieudlies had been taken prisoners at Whakare (by Te Kooti ?). A general attack i 3 apprehended. A report had reached the Thames on Sunday, that five settlers had been murdered at the Waikato. No details have been received, aud it is thought that possibly the report may refer to the White Cliffs massacre. The St. Kilda put in at Castle Point, in Wellington Province, with twenty Ngatipouros on board, for Wanganui. Upwards of 60 more remained at Napier with Eopata. The other natives would have come, but Ropata used moral and physical efforts to prevent them.
