j LATEST FROM THE FRONT.
The following telegram from Wellington appeared in this morning's Colonist. Wellington, Thursday, -3.30 p.m. Colonel Whitmore has completed his arrangements for attacking Tito Kowaru. H.M. ship-of-war Blanche with General Chute, Colonel Page, Commodore Lambert, aud Dr Grace leave Wellington, for Wanganui, this evening. Much anxiety is felt for the result. Dr Grace is expected to return on Tuesday next. There are said to be 700 Hauhaus in the pa at Nukuraru. Thursday, 5.35 p.m. Finnimore has just arrived with despatches from Whitmore. I The pa at Nukumaru was taken by the Colonial troops ou the morning of the 3rd February. The enemy evacuated the pa as the troops advanced, aud retreated towards Waitotara road. The Cavalry and Natives ftre in full pursuit, and close on their track. The pa is reported to be exceedingly sfcroug, and the defences of the most complete description. The place was shelled on the Ist aud 2nd instant, apparently with great effect, and Tito Kowaru evidently made off in consequence of the bombardment. No bodies were found in the pa. Our only casualty was oue man wounded. Colonel Whitmore follows up the enemy across the Waitotara river as soon as possible. The men of our forces are in excellent spirits. Wereroa is agaia occupied by our forces.
