The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, JANUARY 22, 1869.

TELEG-RAPHIC INTELLIGENCE. We copy the following telegraphic information from this morning's Colonist : — The s.s. Mataura arrived from Sydney, yesterday, and sails hence for Southampton direct, on Saturday. All the vessels of the Company have been sold. Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane, shipowners of Auckland, have bought the Lord Ashley and the Airedale at a price which is rumoured amounts to only £13,000 for the two. The same firm are still iv treaty for the Phoebe. The Australasian Steam Company bought the Egmont and Auckland. Captain Wheeler remains in the Phoebe. The unfortunate shareholders in England will not get a farthing. The result of the arrangements of the commissioners sent out to look after the interests of the Company are looked upon here as perfectly astounding. Captain Vine Hall lost no time in selling everything privately. The conduct of the commissioners is bitterly complained of. It is not known here whether the sales have been effected for the Company or for the mortgagees. The Airedale is kept till Saturday, which is her last trip. The John Peon has arrived here from Wanganui. She sails for Lyttelton and Dunediu at midnight. SBe is greatly admired by numerous visitors. Some Wanganui Cavalry have, it is reported, requested to be relieved from duty, owing to Colonel Whitmore resuming the command. Preparations are making for an attack on Tito Kowaru. Von Ternpsky's remains have been recovered and taken to Patea by Colonel McDonnell. The Challenger returned with the Governor from Lyttelton at 1 o'clock today. His Excellency landed privately.
