BISHOP'S SCHOOL EXAMINATION. The Christmas Examination of the pupils of the Bishop's School was brought to a conclusion on Wedoesday last, the examiners this year being the Rijrht Rev. Bishop Suter, and the Revs. G-. H. Johnstone and R. J. Thorpe. Ou ihe following day the Examiners, in the presence of a large assemblage of the parents and friends of the boys, declared the results of the examination made by them, and the prizes in the various sul'jects were distributed, with appropriate remarks, by his Lordship the Bishop to the various happy recipients. j The Bishop then addressed the assemblage, expressing his thorough confidence in the school, which ;had been confirmed not only by the results of its working, as shown in th.fi present examination, for it did well what it undertook to do, but also by the position it held, which testified strongly to the vigor and steadiness of the ( Master, Mr Lee, and of his assistant, Mr Guerin. His Lordship concluded as follows: — I am sure it will gratify the parents — especially those who are duly alive to the wants of the children, to know that the examination in the knowledge of the Bible, and the main principles of the Christian faith was satisfactory. We supply religious instruction to those who desire it, and so far from its beiug any hindrance, we find those who give it to their children at home are generally the most. anxious that they should have it at school. lam quite sure that to eliminate the study of the Bible from any course of teaching is to give up a most valuable instrument of education as well as iustructioD. Apart from its position as a Book of Faith, Jit is so admirably adapted to exercise the j udgment, to stimulate thought, and to encourage the historic and poetic human faculty; it has as a matter of fact, so eutertwined itself with all our literature that it caunot be duly appreciated or understood without Biblical knowledge — if we must know Latin and Greek to be able justly to appreciate the wisdom of the aucients, our own standard literature is so impregnated with the ideas, facts, and words of Scripture as to require a,knowledge of the Bible even on that ground. Both the other Examiners made some appropriate comments on the results of their labors, who were highly complimentary both to the teachers and their pupils, and were followed by the Head Master and Mr Guerin, who gave some interesting details as to the present attendance at the school and the studies pursued at it. Several hearty cheers, given as boys alone can give them, for the Bishop,

the Masters, and the Examiners, concluded the proceedings. The following is a list of the prizes, two of which, we may observe, were presented by Bishop Hobbouse: — Latin. — First Class, E. Fearon; Second Class, F. Whitwell; Third Class, T. Nalder; Fourth Class, E. Lewis; Fifth Class, J. Low. Arithmetic. — Upper Form, First Prize, J. Burn ; Second Prize, A. Btntley. Lower Form, W. Kerr.
