NELSON COLLEGE.

The annual distribution of prizes took place yesterday afternoon at the College, iv presence of a large number of visitors, including many ladies. As soon as his Honor Judge Richmond, who had been delegated by the Governors to preside on tbe occasion, had taken the chair, the Rev-. the Head Master proceeded to n&aiQ the successful candidates in classics and English subjects, aud then called on Mr Mackay to name the mathematical prizemen. After the distribution his Honor, in a long and interesting address, explained to the pupils the object of their various studies, urged them to have some definite purpose in life* and to choose for their imitation some good model — the best, in his opinion, being presented in religion; and concluded by wishing them and their instructors the enjoyment of their holidays and a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Mr Barnicoat, on behalf of the Governors, thanked his Honor for presiding; and after Mr Simmons had announced that studies would be resumed that day seven weeks, the proceedings terminated amid a variety of hearty cheers from the boys-.
