LATEST FROM THE FRONT. SUCCESSFUL NATIVE ENGAGEMENT AT POVERTY BAY. Tlie following telegram, transmitted by Mr D. Maclean from .Napier to the Houorable J. C. Richmond, at Wellington at 10.5 this morning, has been forwarded by the Government to the Telegraph-office at this place, and is published for general information: — An engagement took place on the 23rd, at Poverty Bay. Te Kooti is supposed to be killed. More than 20 of the enemy killed. Loss of the Government Maoris — 4 killed and 12 wounded. Neither party can bury their dead. Our positiou is admirably situated for artillery practice. A uiin-of- war's rocket brigade, with two lighi guns for throwing grape a >d shell, is much wanted.
