The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1868. THE SUEZ MAIL.
The Tararua reached the Bluff yesterday morning, with the September Mail via Suez. The intelligence she brings is up to the 3rd ult. The following telegram was published by the Examiner this morning : — London, Sept. 26. The younger members of the royal family have returned to London. The Duke of Edinburgh was present as best man at the wedding of Commander Campbell, of the Galatea, to Miss Archer. The Bank of England dividend is four per cent, interest. Consols 94. A revolution has taken place in Spain, headed by the Duke de Sartorius and General Prim. The insurgents are masters of Seville, Corunna, Alicante, and Galicia. Espartero formed a Provisional Government, and published a manifesto in favor of civil and religious liberty and universal suffrage. He urged on the people the necessity of abolishing the Bourbon dynasty. The late Ministers fled to France. The insurgents were masters of the whole fleet. There has been some obstinate fighting. The Queen of Spain was at Le Bastan, in Navarre. The report that Italy had demanded the evacuation of Kome by the French troops has been officially denied. October 1. At the wool sales, just ended, prices fell below the July sales from 2d to 4d per lb. The French Atlantic cable has been commenced. Colonel Wilson Patten is appointed Secretary for Ireland, ia the place of Lord Mayo, appointed Governor- General of India. A speech delivered by the King of Prussia was thought menacing, and caused a monetary panic in Paris. A pacific interpretation was afterwards given to it by the official press. An attempt has been made to assassinate the Viceroy of Egypt by dropping an explosive shell into his carriage. The perpetrator of the outrage is unknown. Mr Disraeli has issued an address to his constituents, reviewing the Conservative administration. He declares the Army and Navy to be effective, and he affirms his uncompromising hostility to Mr Gladstone's Irish policy, which he belives to be dangerous and consummating the ends of Romish supremacy. The Times expresses surprise that the Government has neglected meeting the wishes of the Australian colonies to extend telegraphic communication to these shores by way of India, especially as Victoria had offered to contribute largely to the object October 2. The Queen's health is much improved. Wool is firmer; 40,000 bales were reserved from late sales. The revolution in Spain has bees highly successful. The Madrid garrison fraternised with the people. Madame Rachel lias been sentenced to five years' penal servitude.
• October 3. Madrid has, elected a Government by universal suffrage. AH Spain has joined the revolution.
