LATEST FROM THE FRONT. great Destruction of property north of the tangahoi. declaration of war by the maori KING. THREATENED GENERAL RISING IN OCTOBER. Wellington, September 29. 11.30 a.m. An extra of the Wanganui Times gives the following : — There has been great destruction of property. The Maori king declares for war, and threatened a general rising of the native? in October. The houses of Mr Bradshaw and those of the Middiemass, family and every house and wbare north of the Tangao Eiver been burnt by the rebels. Before Col. Haul tain ordered the outposts to be abandoned, he asked Teuro to go and request Tito Koearu not to cross the Tangahoi, and that message being so speedily followed by our men abandoning Waihi, Turuturumokai, and Middlemass's Redoubt, Tito Kowaru took it in the light of a bargain that he was to have that tract of country in consideration of this forbearance. To prevent our going back, he has burnt every building that a man could find shelter in. It seems that when his Maori Majesty beard of Tito Kowaru's recent success in the Fatea district, he had a dream and saw visions. On arising from his slumbers he announced to those around him that be had received a message from the Maori god, highly approving of Tito Kowaru's conduct, and ordering the Maori king to call upon all the Hauhaus throughout New Zealand to rise as one man, in the month of October next, to extirpate the Pakeha. The King accordingly addressed a kind of edict throughout the islands, commanding them to rise in October, and make war upon the Europeans. The Government are said to be in possession of one of these circulars. ;
