MEETING AT WAKAPUAKA.

A public meeting of the electors of the Suburban North District was convened by E. Wastney, Esq., M.P.C., afc the Black Horse Inn, Wakapuaka, for Tuesday yvening last, in order to give an opportunity for an expression of opinion respecting the financial measures of the present Government. J. Mackay, Esq. took the chair, and called upon the meeting to show emphatically that they would not willingly nor sileDtly submit to any interference with their political liberties, more especially as there was a prospect of a clear robbery of this province of £20,000 annually, if Mr Hall's scheme became law. Interesting speeches were given by tho chairman, and Messrs Wastney and Gilbert, in favor of the following resolutions which were unanimously adopted. Apparently but one feeling pervaded the meeting, that the sooner the present Miuisfcry resigned, the better it would be for the country. 1. That this Meeting is of opinion that the proposals of the Ministry for regulating the financial arrangements between this colony and the Provinces are unsound in principle and if carried out into practice would be the means of inflicting gross injustice upon a large portion of the colony. 2. Thatl the proposition ot inflict the "annual charges for the provinci.il debts on all the provinces alike, is a most flagrant act of injustice to the Province of Nelson inasmuch as in the management of its atfairs the strictest economy has been studied, and being almost free from debt, it is therefore entitled to exemption from the great burdens which this scheme would place on its inhabitants. 3. • That this meeting strongly deprecates the conduct of the "present Ministry in attempting to effect great and important chanses in the constitution of the country, without taking the legitimate course of appealing to the constituency at large. 4. Thafc a copy of these resolutions be sent by the Chairman to A Collins Esq.., M.H.R. and W. Wells JEs<i„ M.H.R. that those gentlemen maj be mada acquainted with the views and wishes of the electors of this district.
