RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Extended Jurisdiction. "Wednesday, August 26, 1868. (Before J. Sharp, Esq., R.M.) Adolphus Wiesenhavern y. S. H. Pike. — This was an action to recover £100 (reduced from £116 Bs. Id., to come within the jurisdiction of the Court), being the plaintiff's charges for accommodation, wool carting, &c, the principal items being £s(t, representing loss alleged to have been sustained by the plaintiff through defendant retaining his three working bullocks, and £36, price paid for them. Dr Combe appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Pitt for the defendant. The case occupied the Court for a considerable time, aud judgment, was ultimately given for the plaintiff, for £24 Os. 3d., with costs, £6 Is. H. Balme v. S. H. Pike. This was an actiou to recover £48 155., being the loss sustained by plaintiff on the sale by auction of a carriage ordered by the defendant, to cost £100. Mr Pitt appeared for the defendant. It appeared from the evidence that no written order had been given by the defendant for the building of the carriage in question, and by law no agreement being binding involving any sum above £10., unless given in writing with a stamp affixed to it, the plaintiff was nonsuited, defendant's costs, £2 2s. being allowed; Healey and Leslie v. R. Thomson.— Action to recover £1 18s. 3d. amount of articles supplied to the defendant, who did not appear. Judgment for plaintiff in amount claimed with 11s. costs. W. Evans v. W. Stevens. — Action to recover £3 10s. for board and lodging. Judgment for plaiutiff for £3 10s. and 11s. costs. The following cases were adjourned : — Edwards v. M'Farlane, to recover £37 11 9. 6d., balance of wages due, adjourned to the 9th December next, plaintiff being now in gaol for debt, and Jacobsen v. Holland, to recover £43 45., the amount of a promissory note with interest, adjourned until the 23rd September next.
