Oar readers have already been apprised of the withdrawal of the scheme for the disposal by lottery of Judge Cheeke's stud at Varroville, near Sydney, in consequence of the prohibition of the Government. The Sydney Morning Herald, in connection with this subject, says: — We have been informed by the agent of the distribution that some very singular applications have been made for particular numbers in many cases the result of computation, and oftener from dreams, one of which is too gocd not to be related here. A wellknown gentleman in Sydney dreamed that a particular number would wiu the chief prize, and the next day applied for it; he was informed that it had gone to the agent at Maitland for sale, to whom he at once applied by letter, and was informed in reply, that it was the first number he sold there, and that the purchaser of it, on being applied to to re-sell, positively refused, on the ground that he had himself dreamt that that particular number drew Fireworks ; and two nights afterwards his daughter also dreamed that the same number was the winner of a prize. Another gentleman applied for 17 shares, all the numbers of which must be divisible by nine, and, singulary another person had previously purchased nine numbers, each divisible by seven. Another gentleman, a famous mathematician, had undertaken to name positively by calculation (previously to tbe drawing) the number that would draw the first prize.
