The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, JULY 22, 1868. PANAMA MAIL, BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.
Wellington, July 22. 9 a.m. The Mataura arrived at Wellington, at 3 a.m. to-day, having left Panama at 8.30 a.m., on tha 21st June. Arrived at Opara on the 9th July. Experienced contrary •winds during the whole passage. On the 14th July a heavy gale and tremendous sea compelled her to stop her engines and heave to for 13 hours. The Mataura brings news from Europe up to the 9th of June. Passengers to Wellington — Mr and Mrs Z. F. Poole, Miss Marienburg, Mr and Mrs G. S. Baker and Miss Baker, Mr and Mrs C. P. Baker and 2 children, Miss A. Gannaway, Messrs F. and W. Gannaway, E. Moutalk, Mr and Mrs W. Maxwell, Mr and Mrs J. Maxwell and child, Mrs A. Gannaway, Messrs B. Stevens and W. Gannaway. For Auckland — Mr and Miss M'Laughlin, Messrs C. Furlong and W. Smith. For Nelson — Mr J. Mackay. For Otago — Mr D. Haynes. For Melbourne—Mr and Mrs Garwett and child, Messrs Bell, Scott, and Price. For Sydney — Mr and Mrs Boesacq, Miss Haag, Mrs Briggs and infant, and Mr Hill.
