Another opportunity of forwarding letters for Europe, &c, via Suez, offers itself by the Gothenburg, the Mail by which steamer closes at 5 o'clock this afternoon. An error occurs afc the end of the Provincial Secretary's letter to Mr Commissioner Kynnersley, published iv our issue of yesterday, which we desire to correct, by which the word ' place' is eub-
stituted for ' peace.' The conclusion of the letter will therefore read thus : ' most iujurious to the peace, and most disastrous to the prosperity of the whole colony of New Zealand.' The following telegrams .'from Dunedin appear in the Canterbury papers, containing Melbourne news up to the 25th of April : — Parliament met last Tuesday. It adjourned to Thursday, when a further adjournment was agreed to after discussion, as the Governor had not definitely arranged with Mr M'Culloch. At a Ministerial caucus, resolutions were passed to abide by former pledges — the bill with the Darling grant included. Mr M'Culloch 'is expected to resume power, but the political difficulty remains iutact. — The Taranaki Relief Fund case has been argued in Banco. The unexpended balance is £3,000. Judge Molesworth reserves judgment. — Alluvial mining at Bendigo is turning out well. Two loads of stuff yielded 8 ounces of gold. — The French transport steamer Aveyron is in the Bay with 600 troops on board, bound for New Caledonia. — The Hamsdeu paper mill will commence working shortly. The machinery is ready. — There is a great mortality among children, caused by diptheria. — The Priuce Alfred Hospital Fund amounts to £6,000. — The preservation and exportation of meat is increasing.
