In our issue of yesterday, in referring to the arrival of the Omeo at the Blufi, we mentioned that the Mail via Suez had not. been signalled vqfien she left Melbourne. This statement, it is necessary to explain, formed part of the telegram, but ou consideration we find that although under the old arrangements the Mail ■would have been due at the Bluff on the 17th instant, by the new time table for the current month, it will not be due until the 21st. Hence in all probability arose the misstatement in the telegram. We may add that the Panama Mail will be due in Wellington on the 22nd, and unless by some accident a steamer leaves that port before the 26th. we may possibly receive both Mails together. The dates of the arrival and departure of the Suez Mail will vary every month, in orcter to coincide with the new postal arrangements with the P. and 0. Company, which provide for the transmission of thirteen mails annually. The Right Rev. Bishop Suter, in his course of sermons on questions of the day, preaches this evening, at Christ Church, on Ritualism. A lecture was delivered at the Institute, Motueka, which had been kindly lent by the Committee for the purpose, on Monday evening last, by the Rev. R. L. Vickers, C. Parker, Esq., M.H.R. and M.P.C., in the chair. The lecture, which was of a very popular character, was illustrative of the life and career of William Carey, the Missionary of Seranipore, with especial reference to Ms arduous labors, both as a suite iouary and ft litterateur, as affording

an examplar of the high, success attainable by methodical perseverance. The lecturer also gave a short sketch of the rise and progress of the connection of the East ludia Company with the British Empire in ludia. At its conclusion, the usual complimentary vote of thanks, "which was proposed by the chairraaD, was carried unanimously, and the reverend lecturer in making his acknowledgments, expressed his readiDess on any future occasion to to contribute his quota gratuitously to the instruction and amusement of hi 9 audience, either in connection with the Institute or for any other specific purpose. In our report of the proceedings at the Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday last, the amount of claim in the case Jervis v. Mabille should have been £21 95., and not £2 19s. It will be seen from an advertisement in another place that a tea-meeting will be given on Tuesday evening next in aid of the funds of the library and reading room of tiie Young Men's Christian Association. The library is now being refitted, and together with the reading room, will be ready next week for use by the members of the Society, for the present, on the evenings of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, in each week, from half-past 6 till 9 — the room being occupied on the other evenings by singing classes, &c. The object of- the Association being to provide the young, men of Nelson with the means of educational improvement, entirely divested of a sectarian character, though with an especial view to counteract the pernicious influences of the day, by the perusal of workß and periodicals of a standard character, &c, it is hoped that it will receive the support of all those who have it in their power to assist the undertaking, either by pecuniary aid, or by the delivery of popular lectures during the approaching winter season. It is, we understand, in contemplation to throw open the reading room to visitors on the paymeut of an admission fee of very trifling amount — one penny per evening— the ordinary subscription by members beiug only 6s. anuually. The Wakapuaka Artillery Company are not likely to be long without their regimental colors, some of their fair friends being actively employed in working a standard for their use, which will shortly be presented to them in due form. A Queeu's Color, as a companion to the Regimental Color, which was presented to the Rifle Cadets last November, is also in preparation, with a view to its presentation before the anticipated Royal visit. We are informed that the Secretary of the Nelson Cricket Club has received communications with reference to the return matches with the Motueka and Wakefield Clubs. The Secretary of the latter club having writteu, stating that the Wakefield team will be happy to play the return match on Tuesday next, the 24th instant, it will place on that day on Victory Square. The Motueka Club regret that circumstauces will not admit of their playing the return match on the day proposed, and express their fears that the summer being so far advanced, their engagements may not permit them to meet the Nelson players this season. The usual monthly inspection of the City Volunteer Companies, by the Hon. Major Morse, the Officer Commanding the District, took place at the Botanical Gardens yesterday evening. There was a much stronger muster of the force on this occasion that) we have seen for sometime paßt. After marching past the Inspecting Officer in quick time, skirmishing, and performing various other manoeuvres, under the command of Captain M'Tavish, the companies were marched through the city, preceded by their band, to the Orderly Room, where they were dismissed.
