The American revolver cannon which has been constructed at Liege had been tried at the proof-ground. It has eight ■chambers, placed like those of a revolver. Two are discharged at each stoppage in the rotation, and it throws explosive projectiles a distance of 2,500 metres. This weapon can fire 100 shots a minute, and, with its carriage andammunition, it weighs about 6001 b. It seems that the vine disease known as 'oidium' is prevalent in Queensland at the present time, and the importation of grapevines, cuttings, or grapes from that colony is prohibited in New South Wales. At,& late electioneering meetiag at the Ovens, Victoria, the following question was put to Mr Gr. V. Smith by a Mr Paton: — 'Do you believe in subsidising the devil?'
