THE MAITAI BRIDGES.
To the Editor of the Nklson Evening Mail. Sir —Alluding to the late flood, you noticed, in your columns <>f the 4th inst., how bravely the three Maitai bridges had held out against, it, and thnt, .is compared ■with the damage sustained in former years, the river had this time caused litile injury to property. lam glad to avail myself of an opportunity of corroborating your statement hy the fact that I, for one, may thiink our Provincial Engineer for the repairs he has made to the bridge in Nile-street, and so far protecting my property and the public road against the encroachments of the Brook-street stream. Indeed, the plan adopted by Mr Blackett is worth noticing, aud should he us«-d in similar eases, as the •work stood this last heavy flood without any damage ; whereas on all previous occasions a great deal of money has been spent in repairs which have only proved failures. Yours, &c, Jacob Frank. Nelson, Feb. 7, 1868.
