The Westport Times of the sth says that in spite of the weather the gold escort from Charles- 1 ton continues to "bring up increased returns. On ' Wednesday, Cobb's coach brought up from 5,000 to 8,000 ounces, belonging to the Bank of New Zealand, in charge of Messrs JKirton and Kissling. The same journal remarks that it would appear that the Bank of New Zealand entertained more sanguine hopes of the success of the Thames Diggings than the accounts from there, hitherto published, would seem to warrant, as the Airedale took up there yesterday about three tons of material for conducting all the processes of assaying, retorting, smelting, and other manifestations requisite to save and bring into a malleable form the gold procured from quartz reefs. The Oddfellows of Marlborough celebrated their seventh anniversary by a dinner at James's Assembly Rooms on the 27th. The chair was filled by S. L. Muller Esq., R,M. supported by his Honor Judge Ward, and Mr Moffit, the N. G. ofthe Blenheim Lodge, Mr Compton, filling the vicechair. The company, inclusive of several guests, numbered about 60 persons, and the proceedings passed off very satisfactorily.
