THE CHALLENGE CUP.

To thb Editor op the Nelson Evening Mail. Sir— -I should like, through your columns, to ask the Commodore of the late Regatta Club the ' rea- on why the Challenge Cup which was some time since presented.by the late Captain Nicholson is not put up now for competition, according to the terms on wliich it was given? There are doubtless boats in the place fit and ready to compete, and I don't think it fair to withhold it unless without good reason, which, if existing, ought to be made public. Trusting, sir, that it may come to light, and that members of the old Club will again bestir themselves to give us a regatta this year equal to those we used so thoroughly to enjoy year* back. I am, etc., Aquarius. Nelson, December 2, 1867. To the Editor op thb Nelson Evening Mail. . Sir — News bas j ust reached us .that our present member in the House of Representatives (Mr A. Richmond) is about to proceed to England, but delays sending in his resignation until Mr Gibbs has canvassed the district. if such be the case, Mr Richmond need not delay resigning, for a large majority of the electors are of opinion that Mr Gibbs as M.P.C. is an infliction, but that electing him M.H.R. would be simply a calamity, there being too many of his stamp in that House already. Yours, &c, An Electob. Golden Bay, December 2, 1867.
