We have the' 1 following items of Australian news up to the Ist instant: — In the Sculler's match at Sydney, Hickey beat Green by three lengths.— A great rush has taken place at Maryborough, in Queensland. — The prisoner Bertrand has been sentenced to imprisournent for life, the first three years -of the sentence to be undergone in irons. — The Melbourne Cup was won easily by Tim Whiffler, the favorite Sydney horse, ridden by Driscoll. Tha Hurdle race was won by Pyrrhus; the Darling Slakes by Palladium.
