The annexed extracts are copied from a report in the Neison Government Gazette, of date Juiy 1, 1*67, by Dr. Cusack, Provincial Surgeon, who reported on Pleuro-pneumonia : — '• 1 have to state my distinct opinion, that much of the niutton consumed iu Neison is unwholesome, in the sense of being almost destitute of the requisite eiements of nutrition." Dr. Cusack makes the following observations regarding the meat supplied by the Nelson Meat Bazaar : — " To those who can afford it, it is generally possible to obtain good meae; but to working nuu, to whom Id. or 2d. a pound is a large consideration, the importation of cattle has, in my opinion, been a great boon. Mr. Johnson, the enterprising merchant who has lately imported cattle into Neison, is an utter stranger to me ; but as some prejudice exists against liis beef, it is my duty, for tlie information of that portion of the community with whom its lower price is a consideration, to state my impartial opinion, that ail of ic that I have had •an opportunity of seeing or tasting was sound and wholesome, much more so than a great deal of the mutton lately sold iu Neison. If carefully stall-fl-d and tended on bourd ship, I am aware of no reason why most of the animals, if previously healthy, should not be lauded iu sound health at Nelson." S HIPPIN G S UPPLIED.
