Some /short time ago Lord Glasgow had occasion to travel from London to Glasgow, and, on taking his ticket at the bookingoffice -of the railway-station, tendered a £10 note in payment.- Before giving change ihe clerk, in accordance with the usual custom, requested him to endorse the not'ewrth his name, and ou his lord.sj.tip's complying with the mandate, and returning the note to the official, the latter, after a contemptuous glance at the signature; " Glasgow,'! tossed it back fo the owner, exclaiming indignantly, with the aiif of mian whose time was to6 precious to4>e trifled with. <'Put yotfr name to i', and not the. name of the place yoa want to •;-gb^to,\^-;yoa : ald.;fobi'! " The denouement. vnt\y be better imagined than described.
