A trotting match, for £5 aside, took place at an early hour this morning, between Mr Jary's pony, ridden by the owner, and a grey horse the property of Mr Potter, backed (in both senses) by Mr Warren. The match was from the Spring Grove Hotel to the junction of Trafalgar and Bridge streets, a distance of about 12£ miles, which was accomplished in 45 minutes, Mr Jary's pony winning by about three quarters of a mile. The match I caused considerable excitement amongst the sporting community, aod a large num- | ber of horsemen accompanied the competitors into town. Among the articles at present in the Auckland Museum there is, according to the Herald, a wild duck that has been completely incrusted with the silicious deposits of one of the hot lakes; this is very curious ; also a New Zealand rat, 'very small as compared with the European I rat, and a frog. kind is a copy of the Auckland Times, No. 11, date October 18, 1842, printed by a mangle, by Henry Falwasser, sole editor and publisher.
