The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, JULY 22, 1867. NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.

A geueral meeting was held at the office of the Board, on Friday last, the 19th instant. Present: Messrs R. Buru (Chairman, Carter, Rout, and Wright. The following tenders for kerbing Bridge-street were opened : — A. Adams Is 7-|d per lineal foot, G. Burgoyne ls 10^d, R. Simpson ls Bfd, Lloyd and Brady ls lid, Morecombe and Kuight 3s 9d. It was resolved that the tender of Mr A. Adams be accepted, on condition of his security being satisfactory. The adoption of the report of the subcommittee upon Brou ti-street was postponed till the 20th instant. The Secretary drew the attention of the Board to the fact that the Waimea and Haven-roads require gravelling, and the Secretary was instructed to advertise for a teuder, for a supply of Boulder Bank gravel, to be sent in by the next meeting of the Board. - A letter was read from Mr Gorrie, complaining of having paid rates for acre No. 242. the same not being his property. The matter was referred to the Secretary for investigation. A letter was read from Messrs Rae and others, calling the attention of the Board to the state of the footpath in Hardy-street which the Secretary was instructed to inspect. Mr Carter, with the Secretary, reported that, haviug made a visit to Mackay's Point in order to ascertain whether any sione fit for public purposes could be obtained there, they were of opinion that none existed in that locality suitable for the use of the Board. In compliance with a request from Mr F. Josephs, that the Board would furnish him with the correct line of street ou the east side of Trafalgar-street, the Secretary was instructed to furnish the requisite information. A letter was read from Mr Burnett, expressing his willingness to pay one half the expense of making a watercourse in Hampden-street East. The Secretary was instructed to see Mr Burnett on the subject, and report thereon at the next meeting. Mr Rout drew the attention of the Board to a ditch requiring cutting in Bronti-street, in order to prevent water running down at the back of Mr Webb's premises in Collingwood-street, and the Secretary received the requisite instructions. Au application was made by Mr Dement requesting the Board to return his model of the Trafalgar-street sewer. In reply, the Secretary was instructed to inform Mr Dement that they knew nothing whatever of his model. A letter was read from Mr H. Baly, requesting the Board to allow him the privilege of cutting some turf from Hali-fax-street, which was granted on condition of replacing the turf by gravel. Mr. Carter reported to the Board that Mr Harley, in filling up his ground at the corner of Cambria and Tasman streets, was impeding the natural watercourse, and was thereby inflicting an injury upon the road and other adjacent properties. The Secretary was instructed to confer with the Solicitor of the Board ou this matter. The Secretary, in conjunction with the Inspector of Nuisances, produced a rough draft of proposed by-laws for the regulation of cabstands in this city. It was resolved that the matter stand adjourned until the next Board meeting.

The Secretary also produced a rough draught of the annual report, which was adopted by the Board. A letter from Messrs Curtis Brothers was read, calliug the attention of the Board to the state of the road opposite the entrance to their timber-yard in Trafalgarstreet, which the Secretary was instructed to inspect. A memorial was received from several residents in Harley-street, requesting the Board to form the road, and the Secretary was instructed to state that us soon as the Board received notice of the conveyance of the road to them, they would take the matter iuto consideration. The question of Mr Jameson's deposit of £15 as security for the fulfilment of his coutract in Kawai-street was brought under the consideration of the Board by the Secretaiy. The Board resolved "that the request of Mr Jameson to have his deposit retnrued, which he lodged with the Secretary of the Board as security for the due performance of work iu Kawaistreet, aud which contract was afterwards broken, could not be entertained, and that the securities are intended to be eu forced in all cases of broken contracts." Several accounts were passed, and the Board then adjourned until Monday, 29th July, at 10 a.m.
