LOSS OF THE SCHOONER RAPID.
Master's Repout. At 2 p.m. on the 7th July got under weigh, and proceeded towards the bar, wind calm, S.W. On getting to the bar, wind chopped to west, and we anchored in four fathoms, keeping all sail out, a strong ebb tide running. Shipped a heavy sea, ■carvyingj away starboard bulwarks, stancheons, &c, after which the siiip commenced to make water. Weighed anchor to get more to the south side of the channel, the wind then falling light we drifted over to the north channel, anchoring clear of the surf. The ship took the ground at low water, when we weighed and dropped up the •north channel, and took ground on one of the banks, ship making a great deal of water. At 10 p.m. the water had risen four feet over the cabin deck? A, heavy surf setting in -with the flood, we ran' out the anchor and kedge, and tried to get the ship off the bank, but could not move •her. We then quitted the ship as we could be of no further use. Next morning she was all broken <up.
