The new General Post-office in Melbourne, which has been so many years in 'course of building, has at length been brought nearly to completion, and was to ■have been opened on the 2nd instant. The Volunteer Eire Brigade of Invercargill, are having a new Bell Tower erected. The Southland News says: — The tower •will, "when the finishing touches have been given, form a conspicuous and rather ornamental building. The new bell — weighing about 2281bs — is already placed, and the Captain of the Brigade purposes to have a eight alarm on an early date, for the double purpose of getting a full practice of members, and enabling citizens on future occasions to recognise the -warning note. A new hose reel, of the most approved construction, and capable of carrying 600 feet of hose, has been added to the apparatus already in the haads of the Brigade,
