RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

[Before J. Poyntdr, Esq.., K.M.J Saturday, June 30. William Thompson was charged with ha.ving, on Friday, the 2Sfch J uue, stolen from the shop of Mr Thomos. Corbett, iu Trafalgar-street, a waterproof coat, of the value of 255. Thomas Corbel t, being sw_orn, said : I am a draper in Nelson. Yesterday evening, about. lralf-.p!<st five, a man caine into my shop, and told me that a man had taken a coat, and showed me the direction in which he had gone. I ran up Trafalgarstreet and overtook the prisoner. He had > a coat on bis arm; I tapped him on the shoulder and told him he had my coat. He turned round and. we walked as fac as the Trrfalgar Hotel, where we met a policeman. I theii looked at the coat and found it was mine, and gave the prisoner in charge. The coat in question was identified by Mr Wilson, in the employ of Mr Corbett, and the prisoner was sentenced to four months' imprisonment with hard labor. John Titter, charged with allowing a goat and a donkey to be at large, was fined 15s and costs. R, K. Turner charged with rescuing a goat which had been lawfully seized for the purpose of being impounded, was fined £-5- and costs. Robert Lee aad. William Edwards were charged with furious riding on the Waimea road, on Tuesday evening. The case against Edwards was dismissed, Lee being fined £2 and costs.
