NELSON HARMONIC SOCIETY.

To tub Editor of the 'Nelson Evening Mail.' Sir. —Will you allow me to ask the Committee of the Harmonic Society, through your columns, why we have only had one concert since Januarj' last ? In past years there were always four concerts a year^and frequently five. I was given to understand that another concert would take place on Monday next, but I now learn that it has been shelved and postponed sine die, after the use of the Proviucial Hall had been granted by the Council for this especial purpose, in order to give place to a ball for the exclusive delectation of the "Upper Ten Thousand," devised, lam told, to cover their late failure in the attempt to revive the "Bread aDd Butter Balls." I confess it strikes me very forcibly, and I know many others who hold the same opinion, that the Society has now degenerated into a mere convenience for the display of the wonderful musical talents possessed by three or four gifted families in this city and neighborhood, for whose especial gratification the subscribers are expected to pay. As it seems that the subscribers have no voice whatever in the management of the Society, and the Committee suffer themselves to be continually "bamboozled," as they haye been in this last affair, I shall have little hesitation in withdrawing my subscription, much as I desire to see such a Society -flourish in Nelsou, as surely it might, under proper management, and I have no doubt that, others will follow my example. I am, Sir, yours, etc.*, A Subscriber.
