The Evening Post states that among . many valuable geological specimens obtained by Dr. Hector, during his recent, "tour of the Middle Island, there are a few samples of red and black mottled granite obtained at the Hokitiki River; and of white and black marble, found at Collingwood, in the province of Nelson. The specimens are deposited in the Wellington
