By order of the Directors; : JOHN PERCY, Secretary. Nelson, June 21. 2682 NOTICE; mHE Members of the NELSON AKTIZANS' X MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION will hold their Weekly Meetings on aud after Wednesday, June 26th, at the CRRIoTIAN ASSOCIATION ROOM:-, Bridge-street, at halfpast 7 p.m. WM. T. BOND, 26SS Hon. Sec. TO THE ELECTORS OB^ THE WAIMEAS. f*\ ENTLEMEN— I beg to inform you it is my vJT intention to offer myself as a candidate for the Waimeas at the forthcoming election for the General Assembly. 1 have been many times requested to put myself in the position of a candidate for the honor of representing this district in the General Assembly, but have always declined to accede to those requests, preferring to confine myself to local purposes, in the advocacy of which I trust you have, for the last twenty years, found me faithful and sincere, as well as in doing everything in my power to advance the interest and well-being of the province in the many public capacities in which I have been placed. Nor do I now covat or wish lor honors, but am only actuated by a strong desire to uphold the privileges granted so liberally by the Constitution Act to the settlers of New Zealand by the Imperial Parliament, and to maintain privileges like to those which the people of England are now striving to obtain in the Reform movement ; by a desire to see justice done to the bonajide settlers in New Zealand — the bone and sinew of the colony. I entirely disapprove of the present mode of taxation, which lays nine-tenths of the burden on the industrial classes and their families to support the extravagance of the Ministry of the colony ; nearly exempting the wealthy, especially those large holders of land who can boast of their thousands of income, but who are not now paying ia I - proporiion to their wealth, for the support of the Government, anything more than a comparativefraction of the burdens borne by the laboring man, who receives but a few shillings per day. As my policy and principles have been known for these last five and twenty years, I deem it superfluous to dwell upon them, but at the hust--ings 1 will answer any questions you may think proper to put to me. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant. E. BAIGENT. Wakefield, June 5. 26 1g FOR SALE, at M( )TUEKA.— The Lease of 7 acres of Land, with a shop thereon, and the good-will of the business.
