We stop the press to announce that the / party sent out to verify the existence of ■ the pass known as Mr. Hough's, returned this afternoon to town, having fully succeeded in the object of their expedition. The paas is five hundred feet lower than the adjacent parts of the range, and presents no difficulties in the way of forming a bridle-track. Mr. Arthur Collius estimates the distance from the store on thd Baton River, through Hough's Pass, to the Karamea Bend, at twenty-five miles. The country traversed was found to be iiighly auriferous, and Mr Groom's pass is pronounced to be utterly impracticable.
