We have received intelligence of a very important rush which has taken place at the Bailer, about two miles above Waite's, P kihis and three miles inland to the South. About- 4000 persons are already on the spot, ami it is described as one of the most promising rushes yet discovered in this province. Information has been received by telegram from Christchurch, announcing the fact that the old established firm of Peacock nm\ Co-,, has suspended payment. The liabilities are said to be upwards of £200 r OOO. The largest creditors are Kedferu and Alexander, London, the Bank of JJew Zealand, J. Peacock, Sydney, and Ferguson, Webb and Co., Sydney. The failure is looked upon as a great calamity, as it must entail serious consequences on ih« general community.
